Migrant crisis: Hungary police recruit 'border-hunters'

The Hungarian police are advertising for 3,000 "border-hunters", who will reinforce up to 10,000 police and soldiers patrolling a razor-wire fence built to keep migrants out.

The new recruits, like existing officers, will carry pistols with live ammunition, and have pepper spray, batons, handcuffs and protective kit.
The number of migrants reaching Hungary's southern border with Serbia has stagnated, at fewer than 200 daily.
The new guards will start work in May.

The recruits will have six months' training, they must be over 18, physically fit and must pass a psychological test, police officer Zsolt Pozsgai told Hungarian state television.

Monthly pay will be 150,000 forint (£406; $542) for the first two months, then 220,300 forint.

Hungary is in the grip of a massive publicity campaign, launched by Prime Minister Viktor Orban's right-wing government ahead of a 2 October referendum.

Voters will be asked to oppose a European Commission proposal to relocate 160,000 refugees more fairly across the 28-nation EU.

Under the EU scheme, Hungary has been asked to take 1,300 refugees. The relocation programme is for refugees from Syria, Iraq and Eritrea.

Currently 30 migrants are allowed into Hungary each day through official "transit zones".

The number of those camped on the Serbian side of the border, next to the fence, waiting for access to the transit zones, fell to 346 at Horgos last week, and 103 at Kelebia. That is below half the total of a month ago.
A note on terminology: uses the term migrant to refer to all people on the move who have yet to complete the legal process of claiming asylum. This group includes people fleeing war-torn countries such as Syria, who are likely to be granted refugee status, as well as people who are seeking jobs and better lives, who governments are likely to rule are economic migrants.

Sergio Aguero: Man City striker banned for three games for elbow

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will miss Saturday's derby against Manchester United in the Premier League after being banned for three games.

A Football Association panel found Aguero, 28, guilty of violent conduct after he elbowed West Ham's Winston Reid in City's 3-1 Premier League win on Sunday.

Argentina international Aguero is also suspended for miss City's home league game with Bournemouth on 17 September and the EFL Cup third-round match at Swansea on 21 September.

Aguero has scored three goals in three league games this season for City, who are top of the table with a 100% record.

He also scored a hat-trick in the first leg of their 5-0 Champions League qualifier against Steaua Bucharest.

City contested the violent conduct charge and argued that "the standard punishment would be clearly excessive".

Man City: Yaya Toure left out of Champions League squad

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has left midfielder Yaya Toure out of his 2016-17 Champions League squad.

City could not include more than 17 overseas players in their squad.

And Guardiola still has 18 on his books, despite letting four foreign internationals leave before Wednesday's transfer deadline.

Clubs can change three players after the group stage but Toure, 33, will not be able to play against Borussia Monchengladbach, Celtic and Barcelona.

The Ivory Coast international has played a major part in all City's trophy wins since he was bought from Barcelona, then managed by Guardiola, for £24m in 2010.

He has only played once this season, in the second leg of the Champions League play-off against Steaua Bucharest, when City were already 5-0 up from the first game.

It was rumoured Toure might leave the club following Guardiola's arrival, with Inter Milan one of the clubs who were interested.

However, the player never had any desire to leave City and intends to see out his contract, which expires in 2017.

The 17 overseas players Guardiola has chosen include new signings Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, who are yet to play for the club, skipper Vincent Kompany, who is recovering from groin and thigh operations which kept him out of Euro 2016, and 19-year-old forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

Samsung recalls Note 7 flagship over explosive batteries

Samsung Electronics is recalling its flagship Galaxy Note 7 smartphone and said that battery problems were behind phones catching fire.

The decision follows reports in the US and South Korea of the phone "exploding" during or after charging.

The South Korean company said customers who had already bought the phone would be able to swap it for a new one.

Samsung said it had been difficult to work out which phones were affected among the 2.5 million Note 7s sold.

"There was a tiny problem in the manufacturing process, so it was very difficult to figure out,'' the president of Samsung's mobile business Koh Dong-jin told reporters.

"It will cost us so much it makes my heart ache. Nevertheless, the reason we made this decision is because what is most important is customer safety," he said.

The firm said it would take about two weeks to prepare replacement devices.
According to Samsung, the phone has been launched in 10 countries so far but with different companies supplying the batteries.

The recall comes just one week ahead of an expected presentation of a new iPhone model from its main rival Apple.

Business Live: Samsung recall fallout
This is an extraordinary decision for a tech giant to make based on so few reported incidents - Samsung says it is aware of only 35 cases worldwide.

It's bad timing so soon after a big product launch and especially given that Samsung's rival Apple is understood to be preparing to unveil a new iPhone.

However, the firm says it has discovered a problem with the battery cell and is halting sales while it inspects its suppliers.

People who have already bought the device - which is only available to pre-order in the UK - will be issued with a replacement.
Stories about exploding smartphone batteries do make the news from time to time - lithium ion batteries are flammable but very widely used.

Reported 'explosions'

Over the past few days, several users have reported their phones catching fire or exploding while charging, and Samsung said it had confirmed 35 such cases.
A YouTube user uploaded a video under the name Ariel Gonzalez on 29 August of a Galaxy Note 7 with burnt rubber casing and damaged screen.
He said the handset "caught fire" shortly after he unplugged the official Samsung charger, less than a fortnight after purchasing it.
Further images of a burnt Galaxy Note 7 were uploaded to Kakao Story, a popular social media site in Korea, on 30 August.

A user wrote: "There was another explosion of the Galaxy Note 7. It was my friend's phone. A Samsung employee checked the site and he is currently in talks over the compensation with Samsung. You should use its original charger just in case and leave the phone far away from where you are while charging."

Flagship phone

The phone was only launched on 19 August and has since then been generally well-received by critics and consumers.

The Galaxy Note 7 model is the latest of Samsung's series of so called phablets - smartphones with very large screens.

Samsung also added an iris scanner to the Note 7, which lets users unlock the phone by detecting patterns in the eyes.

In July, Samsung beat expectations with record earnings in the latest quarter with strong smartphone sales helping the firm post its best quarterly results in more than two years.
Samsung had predicted continued increase in demand for its smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year.
